DIRECTORS OF SOLOMON POWER – CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Positions as Directors now exists within the Solomon Power Board.
As required by the State Owned Enterprises (SOE) Act of 2007 and the 2010 Regulations made under that Act, the Board of the Solomon Islands Electricity Authority trading as Solomon Power (SP) hereby calls for Expressions of Interest from those persons who wish to be considered for the position of Director of the Board of SP.
SP is an autonomous, Government- owned statutory authority, which is responsible for the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity in the Solomon Islands.
Over recent years a significant improvement in the commercial sustainability of the SP has been achieved. The prudent management has now resulted in a situation where SP is able to commit to a SBD$1 billion capital works program over the next five or so years that will further improve the reliability in Honiara and at the outstations and see the development of new outstations.
SP is all about Nation-building. Having improved its financial position, SP now considers the next phase to be about increasing the footprint of the electricity network and make electricity accessible to more Solomon Islanders. SP has now embarked upon an aggressive strategy of electricity network growth in Honiara and the Provinces.
SP is seeking candidates who have relevant qualifications or experiences in one or more of the following areas:
- Appropriate higher education qualifications preferably tertiary in Economics, Business Management, Finance or Law
- Recent directorship and experience in public, private and/or SOEs together with a good understanding of the Electricity Act 1997, SOE Act 2007 and the associated regulations
- Good financial and commercial abilities in any large and successful private organisation
- Demonstrated experience in corporate strategic planning and business management
- Strong proven corporate governance and risk management experience

Opportunity – Assistant Mechanical Engineer Operation
Solomon Islands Electricity Authority trading as Solomon Power invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Mechanical Engineer Operation. The Assistant Mechanical Engineer Operation will manage, monitor and lead the Power Station Operational team. The role reports to the Mechanical Engineering Coordinator.
It is a full-time role and the incumbent will ensure:
- Power Station operations effectively and efficiently managed
- Well trained and effectively managed staff
- Informed Mechanical Engineering Coordinator
- A healthy, safe and OHS compliant Solomon Power
- Environmental protection is prioritized at all times
- Solomon Power image and value demonstrated at all times.
Qualification: Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
- At least 3-5 years as a senior engineer in a relevant field
- Accurate and correct reporting skills both written and verbal.
- Analytical skill and ability
- High customer relations service skills
- Excellent command of English (written and oral)

Office Cleaner and House Keeper
Solomon Islands Electricity Authority trading as Solomon Power invites applications from interested individuals for Office Cleaner and House Keeper (Gizo). The Office Cleaner and House Keeper will support Gizo Office in the safe, efficient and effective delivery of key team outcomes in terms of taking care of the cleanliness of rooms and common areas, office cleaning roles and healthy environment for both internal customers and external customers in the office building.
The role reports to Officer in Charge (OIC) Gizo, Solomon Power. It is a full-time role and the incumbent will ensure:
- Effective and efficient Office cleaning services provided
- A healthy, safe and OHS compliant Solomon Power
- Environmental protection is prioritized at all times
- Solomon Power’s organizational values promoted and demonstrated at all times
Qualification: Form six Certificate or relevant House Keeping Certificate (preferably from Western Province)
Experience:
- At least one-year experience in a similar position – at least some work experiences in the hospitality sector
- Knowledgeable on cleaning products
- Basic time management skills
- Must have an eye for details
- Ability to learn quickly
- Ability to use modern office equipment
- Ability to understand and follow simple written and oral directions
- Ability to use appropriate initiative as may be required in a given situation
