Fiu River Mini Hydro Power Project

The Fiu River mini hydro project is aimed at providing reliable and sustainable supply of electricity in Malaita province to assist economic growth and increase the capacity to support greater access to electricity for local residents, businesses and industry. The project will also assist Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) to install hydropower generation to replace diesel generation in the third largest load centre in the country and extend the distribution grid to peri-urban households.

Under the Provincial Renewable Energy Project, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will support the project under loan/grant assistance to the Government of the Solomon Islands.

The executing agency (EA) for the project is the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE) and the implementing agency (IA) is SIEA. SIEA will establish a Project Management Unit (PMU) to lead the design, management, supervision and implementation of the project.
