Solomon Power invites applications from qualified individuals for the following positions. These are full-time roles based in the Solomon Islands.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER – OPERATION

About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer Operation will monitor, review and report on daily, weekly and monthly condition monitoring inspection check sheets collated by Power Station Operational team on all Plants and Auxiliary equipment. The role also provides support and assistance to the mechanical services engineer plant, mechanical services engineer auxiliaries and mechanical services engineer high speed engine deliver on their daily operational requirement and maintenance activities whether planned or unplanned.

Additional Responsibility: Additionally, the role overseers the Lunga workshop machinist while reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Coordinator.

The incumbent will ensure:

  • Power Station operations effectively and efficiently managed
  • Well trained and effectively managed staff

Qualification & Experience

  • Education: Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Experience: At least 3 – 5 years demonstrated experience as senior engineer in relevant field.

Key Knowledge & Skills

  • Good communication skills and the ability to relate to staff at all levels.
  • Ability in report writing in coordination with team members.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to peers and other employees.
  • Ability to provide administration advice and inputs.

ELECTRICIAN – (ELECTRICAL)

About the Role

The Electrician supports the team in the safe, effective and efficient delivery of key team outcomes especially in the area of maintenance and repair of electrical plants and auxiliary equipment.

The incumbent will ensure:

  • Operations and maintenance of all electrical plants and auxiliary equipment on a daily basis is professional and effective well informed technical management
  • Compliance with the prevailing laws and organizational policies and procedures at all times

Qualification & Experience

  • Education: Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in electrical engineering with specialization in Power Systems.

Key Knowledge & Skills

  • Appreciation and knowledge of safety policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generator controls, protection and ancillary equipment.
  • Knowledge of High Voltage (HV) systems, Transformers, HV switchgear, protection systems and switching operations.
  • Understanding of DC systems, battery banks, inverters and charging systems.
  • Working knowledge of AS/NZS3000 wiring rules and LV wiring.
  • Good teamwork & interpersonal skills.

WORKSHOP MACHINIST

About the Role

The Workshop Machinist is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and fabricating mechanical components and equipment critical to the efficient operation of Solomon Power’s generation plant. This role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, performing precision machining, and ensuring all machinery and systems operate safely and reliably.

From time to time and depending on availability, the role may be required to assist in planned or unplanned maintenance related activities at both Lunga/Honiara and other Solomon Power Power Stations.

Reports to: The Mechanical Engineer Operation

The incumbent will ensure:

  • Reading technical Machining drawings
  • Preventive Maintenance
  • Repairs and Modifications
  • Advice, support and training provided efficiently
  • A healthy, safe and OHS compliant Solomon Power
  • Environmental protection is prioritized at all times
  • Organizational Values promoted and demonstrated at all times

Qualification & Experience

  • Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: At least 3 – 5 years of experience working as a workshop machinist.

Key Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generator controls, protection and ancillary equipment.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office software.
  • Appreciation and knowledge of safety policies, procedures and requirements.
    • Results oriented and ability to deliver outcomes under pressure and difficult circumstances.
    • Ability to provide administration advice and inputs.

FORKLIFT OPERATOR & STOREMAN

About the Role

The Forklift Operator & Storeman position directly liaises with the Stores and Procurement Department to deliver transportation and movement of stocks, materials, consumables, spare parts and all other supplies to and from the point of delivery to the warehouse.

Reports to: Stock Controller, Solomon Power

The incumbent will ensure:

Qualification & Experience

      • Education: F6/F5 or with relevant Certificate of Competency Level of Work Place Health & Safety Certificate.
      • Experience: At least three years of experience in a similar role.

Key Knowledge & Skills

      • Familiar with warehouse instructions, practices and processes.
      • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
      • Accurate and correct reporting skills both written and verbal.
      • Able to read and understand loading capacity of the Machine and the workload (SWL), Safety Signage, etc.
      • Able to identify/assess risk and make recommendation.
