The Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) trading as Solomon Power (SP) is a vertically integrated state owned enterprise that owns, maintains and operates the national electricity grid in the Solomon Islands. SIEA is currently experiencing an exciting time of capital infrastructure development, network expansion and transformational change, undertaking SBD $1bn capital works program to building an electricity network model that allows it to better service its customers, improve affordability and accessibility and hence future proof the network.

The Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) has received funds from the World Bank under the Solomon Islands Electricity Access and Renewable Energy Expansion Project (SIEAREEP). SIEA proposes to utilize part of funds in component 4 of SIEAREEP towards this proposed Consulting Services for the services of a Solar Engineer.

The Solar Engineer’s role will support the development of solar related developments in the Solomon Islands. The Solar Engineer is responsible for technical inputs including:

  • Develop the concept design and revalidate design inputs as needed.
  • Prepare tender design, drawings and reports.
  • Prepare tender specifications.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Inspection of site works for compliance.
  • Other ad hoc Renewable Energy engineering and power generation related tasks as required.

The Solar Power engineer will also review the works as it is being constructed for compliance with relevant applicable standards and compliance with approved designs, technical soundness and quality assurance of the works.

Reporting to General Manager Capital Works (GMCW), the Manager Construction role for Solomon Islands Electricity Authority trading as Solomon Power (“Solomon Power”) is critical in the capital works team and he/she will be responsible to manage all construction activities for the Solomon Power Capital Works Team, including all funded projects from all funding organizations and also transfer knowledge and train team members. Over time the role will progressively take a support role to the Solomon Power team as the team’s capacity is enhanced. The initially duration for this role will be for 12 months with an option to renew for a further period based on satisfactory performance and further approval by Solomon Power.
