Team Leader and Operator – Hybrid Station

Solomon Islands Electricity Authority T/A Solomon Power aims to provide a safe, reliable, affordable and accessible supply of electricity to the Solomon Islands. We are working with our stakeholders towards Nation building through increasing the footprint of the electricity network and making electricity accessible and affordable to more people in the Solomon Islands.

To help us achieve this, Solomon Power is rolling out its capital project to install hybrid generation systems which will generate electricity from solar- battery system with diesel engine as backup when solar and battery systems are not available.

The first of such locations we will install the first solar PV hybrid generation systems is Taro, Choiseul Province. We are therefore looking for two (2) committed, driven and passionate individuals to join our team and be based at our new Taro Hybrid Station. Summary of the roles are as follows, with full Role Statements available.

Reporting to the Manager Generation, and working closely with General Manager Customer Services’ team, this role supervises & carries out all tasks associated with operating and monitoring; including minor maintenance and upkeep of Hybrid Station plants, equipment and network; and the attendance to customer purchases, payments, enquiries, requests & applications; cash handling.

STANDARDS

  • Professional presentation observing Solomon Power values, uniform etiquette & customer service standards
  • Strict compliance with all safety standards and procedures
  • Ensure use of any Solomon Power vehicles, plants, equipment are operated/driven safely and taken care of whilst under his/her care and responsibility
  • Observe all safety standards and regulations, wear proper safety protection and use equipment in compliance with AS/NZ3000
  • Prompt reporting of any incident
  • Keeping work areas clean maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation

 

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Trade Certificate Mechanical or Electrical

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three years work experience as a Mechanic or an Electrician and at least one year as a supervisor is required.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Book keeping skills and knowledge
  • Supervisory skills
  • Effective communication skills – both written and oral
  • Good report writing skills & must be computer literate
  • With analytical skills and ability
  • Has problem solving capabilities
  • Must have high interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
